The 19th Investment and Trade Forum for Cooperation between East and West China (ITFCEW) kicked off in the city of Xi’an, Shaanxi province, on May 22.

The event will last for one week and more than 40 international and local trade communication activities will be arranged on 300,000 square meters of exhibition land.

The theme for this year’s ITFCEW is “Construct Silk Road Together, Push Local Development and Openness”. The forum is expected to highlight the Belt and Road Initiative, namely, the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that were put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visits to Kazakhstan and Indonesia in 2013.

There are three Silk Road-themed pavilions at the forum, including international, tourism culture and trading pavilions. This year’s Guests of Honor are the countries of Thailand, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia. Each of the Guests of Honor will set up exhibition stalls at the Silk Road International Pavilion. The ITFCEW will arrange a customs forum and dialogue meetings for leaders from the countries along the Belt and the Road Initiative. Government officials, businessmen and enterprise representatives from these countries are invited to the event, where they are expected to bring in thousands of business projects and products.

The ITFCEW is expected to show off the characteristics and investment environment of each participating countries.

ITFCEW began in 1997 and was designed to improve cooperation between East and West China. This year, the event is also expected to increase trade among countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
