The atmosphere is easy to feel as festive goods such as red lanterns, couplets and window paper-cuts sell like hotcakes in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province with the Chinese Lunar New Year just around the corner, hsw.cn reported on Jan 28.

It's a tradition in China to decorate houses with spring couplets, Chinese knots and red lanterns when Spring Festival approaches to add a splash of New Year color and express symbolic wishes for good luck and a happy new year.

Lanterns always sell well at the end of the year, especially those in traditional style and medium size and with a moderate prize, a shop owner said.

Handmade lanterns are also a hit as they carry wishes for peace and prosperity for the whole year.
