Dazzling high-tech performance points way for innovative future

Updated: 2018-03-21

The dramatic use of cuttingedge technologies made this year's Spring Festival in Xi'an an unforgettable one, said entrepreneurs participating in a grand drone show on March 2.

Tang Haochen, co-founder of local high-tech company Yunjing Inc - one of the entrepreneurs involved - said he was totally dazzled.

"I had seen a lot of Chinese New Year celebrations in a number of places. But the one I saw in Xi'an was the most impressive because of the amazing use of high tech," Tang said.

Varieties of local food are offered on the streets of Xi'an, giving tourists and locals an authentic taste of the ancient city.

He mentioned the drone performance and lighting shows, saying that they gave a vivid presentation about the history of the ancient capital and the direction for its future development.

Mi Lei, co-founder of the Xi'an-based tech company CAS Star, agreed.

Mi attended the Lantern Festival drone show. He said that the event offered a visual feast to locals and tourists, giving them a chance to see how cutting-edge technologies could be linked to people's lives.

"The drone performance and the associated lighting show, novel as they were, proved that cutting-edge technologies can build a bridge between the past and future, the traditional and modern," Mi said.

During the show, images of Xi'an's landmark ancient buildings were beamed into the air through the drone and light-formed patterns, recounting the city's glorious history.

The event also gave people an opportunity to see the possibilities that the new technologies could open up for changing people's lives for the better, said Yunjing Inc's Tang.

He cited the Ehang drones as an example.

"Controlled by artificial intelligence technology, the 500-drone fleet completed a highly coordinated performance, just like musicians in an orchestra," Tang said.

"The maneuverable fleet gives people fresh ideas about how to use drones - other than being for photographers, they can be used in diverse fields like delivery, surveys, environmental monitoring and even disaster relief," Tang added.

Mi said he believed other cutting-edge technologies could be quickly used to change people's lives.

He noted that a number of tech companies were currently offering their solutions and products to enhance and improve people's lives, for example, smart city technologies, iris recognition for security checking and infrared imaging systems for blood analysis.

Mi suggested that augmented reality and virtual reality technologies could be used at more scenic spots in Xi'an to help visitors to learn more about local history and culture - and autonomous vehicles could take the place of traditional buses to transport sightseeing tourists.
