ITL Park boosts hub, portal and mobile economies

Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province in Northwest China played host to the Third Silk Road International Exposition and Development Forum on Hub Economy, Portal Economy and Mobile Economy on May 11.

The forum was expected to set up an integration platform of resource elements, establish a new high-land for the reform and opening-up and create new drive for economic interaction, with the aim of promoting the cooperation between countries along the Belt and Road in terms of logistics, industries and economy.

The forum was sponsored by Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and undertaken by Shaanxi Province Development and Reform Commission, the administrative committees of Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park and Airport New City of Xixian New Area.

At the forum, Cui Hua, deputy director of the administrative committee of Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park, recommended the park's development achievements to participants. Cui said that, with the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the support from national and provincial governments, the park developed into a representative of hub economy, portal economy and mobile economy.

New platform boosts hub economy

Xi'an Railway Container Center, occupying some ground of 2,058 mu (137.2 hectares), was officially put into use in 2009. Its container output reached 138,000 in 2017 and continued increasing at an annual speed of 30 percent. In 2017, 5.16 million deals of e-commerce businesses were completed at the center, among which 5.06 million were exported deals and 100,000 were imported deals, making the total amount reach 10 million deals. It also set up eight overseas locations at Frankfurt of Germany, Karaganda of Kazakhstan and other foreign cities.

New port promotes portal economy

Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park has been approved to be first-class railway port, and designated as the port for grain, meat and vehicle import. It also submitted application to the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC to become a pilot site of automobile parallel import. "Xi'an Port" is the only inland port in China that has gained both international and domestic codes. It is included in the global shipping system. In 2017, 5,695 tons of wheat imported from Kazakhstan and 342 tons of meats from Canada and the US went through the port. It only took 36 days to construct the port for vehicle import and the first batch of Volvo vehicles are set to soon arrive.

New channel propels mobile economy

In terms of international channel, the park has opened China Railway Express (Chang'an train) which links Xi'an with Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan), Hamburg (Germany), Moscow, Warsaw (Poland), Budapest (Hungary), and Teheran (Iran). Trains from the park also run to domestic inland ports, including Alataw Pass and Khorgos in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Erenhot and Manchuria in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and to the good-supply regions in Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta. As a goods distribution center in China, the park has formed a three-dimensional logistics channel covering air, land and sea transportation.  

Cui Hua also expressed her hope to cooperate with enterprises from home and aboard to promote the development of hub economy, portal economy and mobile economy, in an effort to build the largest port and hub in Northwest China.

Australian artists perform puppet show in Xi'an

Two artists from the Snuff Puppets troupe based in Melbourne, Australia, conducted a performance at the Great Wild Goose Pagoda square in Xi'an. They carry three-meter-high puppets to interact with tourists.
