Updated: 2018-06-25

The DPRK's Air Koryo will open an air route service between Xi'an and Pyongyang, North Korea in July.

Xi'an will become the fifth Chinese city to be connected with Pyongyang by Air Koryo. The new line will better facilitate tourists and business people from both cities.

Air Koryo, the DPRK's national airline, has already opened flights from Pyongyang to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. The company also established links with Chengdu, Sichuan province in June.

A short-term chartered flight to Xi'an was opened in 2010 and proved popular. The new route will promote exchange and reignite enthusiasm for travel between the two cities.

Meng Xiangguo, deputy director of the Shaanxi Tourism Development Committee, said that the committee will work closely with Air Koryo in the development and sale of tourism products on the Pyongyang-Xi'an route.

Meng also extended a warm welcome to the DPRK to organize tourism promotion activities in Shaanxi province.
