The international cultural exchange campaign was held in the Maldives from Aug 25 to Sept 1, 2018. The event was sponsored by the Shaanxi Han Culture Research Institute, Chinese Embassy of the Maldives and the China-Maldivian Cultural Association and received additional support from the Cultural Think Tank of the Shaanxi Talent Strategy Development Research Center and the Xi'an International Trade and Logistic (ITL) Park of China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The delegation, including more than 20 well-known Chinese calligraphers and painters, arrived in the Maldives on Aug 26 and received a warm reception from Mohamed Rasheed, presidential adviser of the Republic of the Maldives and Chairman of the China-Maldivian Cultural Association.

During the event, a symposium was held for local artists and the public, and training sessions and exhibitions were organized at key schools and art societies to show the charm of Chinese calligraphy and painting. The delegation attended the official opening of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge with Maldivian artists.

Relying on resources from the Cultural Think Tank of the Shaanxi Talent Strategy Development Research Center, Chinese Culture Week aims to create a new model of cultural exchange along the Belt and Road and further spread Chinese culture around the world, thus promoting the cultural ties between Belt and Road countries.

In the future, ITL Park will cooperate with the Shaanxi Talent Strategy Development Research Center to open up a cultural communication channel between China and the Maldives. Chinese calligraphy and painting has been introduced to over 20 islands in the Maldives, building a professional exchange platform for talents across the world.

China will strive to create international exchange through the use of think tanks and promote cooperation in economy, culture, trade and other fields for countries along the Belt and Road.
