Sports boom in Xi'an

A series of major sports events have been held in Xi'an as national fitness flourishes in 2018. Sports are becoming increasingly popular in Xi'an.

The 14th National Games will be held in Shaanxi for the first time in 2021.

The Xi'an Olympic Sports Center in the Xi'an International Trade and Logistics (ITL) Park includes a stadium with a capacity of 60,000 people, a gymnasium with 18,000 seats, and a swimming and diving hall with 4,000 seats.

These venues will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as important events such as track. field and gymnastics. The sports center is expected to become a new landmark of the ancient city of Xi'an.

The 16th Games of Shaanxi Province were held in Xianyang last August. The Xi'an sports delegation ranked first in terms of overall score as well as number of gold medals and total medals.

The Games of Shaanxi Province are the largest comprehensive sports event in the province and serve as a showcase for the development of sports in cities, districts and industries in the province.

As the starting point of the Silk Road, Xi'an is becoming more and more well-known around the world. A series of Silk Road brand events were held in Xi'an this year, showcasing its unique allure to the world.

Some new Xi'an Silk Road events were introduced this year, including fencing, bodybuilding, table tennis and taekwondo.

Recently, marathons have been springing up throughout the country. The Xi'an International Marathon, Xi'an Women's Half Marathon and Xi'an City Wall International Marathon have also served as a showcase for Xi'an's rich culture and magnetic energy.

In addition, the first-ever World Basketball Summit was held in Xi'an during National Day. This is the highest-level basketball industry summit held by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
