Dear guests, teachers and students,

Good afternoon.

Today, I am very pleased we gather on this beautiful campus of Chang'an University in the ancient capital of Xi'an to hold the Second Chinese Speech Contest for International Students sponsored by CRBC. First of all, on behalf of CRBC, I would like to express my congratulations to the 17 international students on reaching the final contest, and warmly welcome the distinguished ambassadors and diplomats of the embassies in China to participate in this meaningful event. You have been supporting CRBC over the years. My thanks also go to the leadership and faculty from the universities for your efforts to educate the international students, especially those of Chang'an University as the host of this event!

At the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing in April, President Xi Jinping proposed that the Chinese government would work with the governments of various countries to build the Belt and Road with high quality, adhere to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, and strengthen inter-connectivity between all parties, deepen pragmatic cooperation and enhance the well-being of people in all countries by promoting policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds, so that the Belt and Road will be built into a road of peace, a road of prosperity, an open road, a green road, a road of innovation, a road of civilization, and a road of integrity. Shortly after the Forum, we are here holding the Second Chinese Speech Contest for International Students, meaning we are putting in place the initiative of "Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future", and "the Five-Connectivity Program" in the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of CRBC. In the past 40 years, as one of the four state-owned enterprises which first entered the international engineering contracting market, CRBC has always taken implementinged the national strategiesy as the top priority of its development, and has established branches in nearly 60 countries or regions around the world. As an important participant and builder of the Belt and Road Initiative, CRBC is committed to the construction of "the road for prosperity, the bridge for connection and the port for development". Over the years, we have seized opportunities, forged ahead with partners from various countries, and achieved fruitful results in many fields, including the construction of the first high quality and high-grade toll highway, the Thies-Touba Highway, in Senegal of west Africa; the Karakoram Highway in Pakistan with the highest altitude in the world; the Brazzaville Riverbank Driveway Cable-stayed Bridge in the Republic of Congo as the small-radius curved cable-stayed bridge with the largest span in the world; and the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, the first standard gauge railway in Kenya, which has been designed, constructed and is now operated by CRBC; the National Park of Mababo in Equatorial Guinea, the biggest city park in Africa; and the No.1 national trunk road in Togo, to name just a few. These landmark projects not only highlight the high standards and high-quality level of CRBC's work, but also vividly reflect the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi for mutual benefit and common development.

Furthermore, with a strong sense of mission, we have fulfilled our social responsibilities, actively engaged in social undertakings, promoted cultural communication, cooperated with the host countries to develop talents, and contributed to the healthy development of the local economy and society. We adhere to the concept of "teaching people how to fish so that they can fish themselves for the rest of their lives", to promoting local employment and accelerating technology transfer. We have sponsored 325 students from the Republic of Congo, Senegal, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Kenya, and Pakistan to study in China, of whom 137 have graduated successfully. They have returned to their homeland with advanced knowledge learned from China, and are contributing to the development of their respective countries.

In 2017, the first Chinese Speech Contest sponsored by CRBC was held successfully, which set a wonderful stage for international students in China to foster their learning interest, demonstrate learning results and understand Chinese culture. Today, at Chang'an University in the city of Xi'an, our international students will present themselves once again on this stage and also show their perception and love for Chinese culture. As we all know, China has a long history of 5,000 years and splendid culture. Xi'an is a famous Chinese city with unique charm, and an ancient witness of Chinese history and culture. As the ancient capital of 13 dynasties in China, Xi'an was the starting point of the world famous Silk Road, and also an important central city in western China. As a famous Chinese university, Chang'an University is the cradle of engineers and has trained many outstanding engineering and management talents for China and the rest of the world.

For the Second Contest in the famous university of the well-known city, I hope it can help you feel the long history of China, stimulate your interest in Chinese culture, and present the achievements of your study of Chinese culture. China has a long history and a profound culture. To learn Chinese is the key to knowing and understanding China, its social achievements and the causes behind its development, making it easier to share the opportunities of China's rapid economic development and to promote better mutual exchanges and mutual learning between different countries and civilizations as well as to build a global community of shared future.

As the pioneer of the Belt and Road Initiative , CRBC, with its 40-year history, has kept in mind the ideal, adhered to the faith and made unremitted efforts, culminating in today's achievements. CRBC is willing to work together with the people and partners of various Belt and Road countries, and stands ready to share the responsibility of developing the economy and society of the host government, deeply participate in regional economic development, and provide high quality public services. In addition, we will continue to strengthen the cooperation and exchanges with countries in infrastructure construction, education and culture, enhance technology transfer, improve the level of localized management, and train all kinds of talents needed by the host countries, and strive to deepen and widen cooperation with the Belt and Road countries.

Dear students, today I reassure all of you that CRBC is always your "home" in China. It is my hope that, you will cherish the time, study diligently and earnestly, succeed in your studies, live up to the expectations of your motherland and people, contribute to the construction of your own country with the knowledge learned in China, and become the bridge and link between China, your homeland and the rest of the world. Let's build a "road of friendship" and a "bridge of cooperation" together.

Finally, I wish all the contestants a very good performance, and the second Chinese speech contest a complete success!

Thank you!
